Valerie is since 2006 principal flutist at the “ Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège” (Belgium) She studied with Ms. Gaby Pas-van Riet and obtained in her class, her Masters degree and Pedagogical diploma in flute performance with greatest distinction at the “Royal Flemish Conservatory of Music” in Antwerp (Belgium)
In 2000, she was awarded the“ Jeanne Baxtresser scholarship” for two years at the “ Carnegie Mellon University” in Pittsburgh (USA), where she completed an “Artist Diploma in flute performance” with greatest distinction.
During her studies in the USA, she assisted to the making of “Great Flute duo's from the orchestral period” from Jeanne Baxtresser and participated as flute teacher in the international music festival “Instrumenta Verano” Puebla (Mexico).

As a young flutist, she was price winner at the “Cera-bank Flute competition” and the “Flemish Radio and Television - competition Young Tenuto”. Through this achievement she was chosen to tour in 1992 as a soloist for a year with the “Brussels International Youth Orchestra”. Abroad, she was finalist in various competitions such as the “Pittsburgh concert society” and the “Myrna W. Brown Artist competition” in Dallas (USA).

A couple of years later, she was selected for two years consecutive to participate in the world orchestra “Pacific Music Festival” based in Japan and conducted by Charles Dutoit, Wen-Pin Chien… as well as in the “PMF chamber orchestra” .
In 2005, she was invited as principal flutist for a long period of time in the “Danske RadioUnderholdingsOrkestret” in Copenhagen (Denmark) conducted by A. Fisher.

Valerie has not only appeared as a recitalist, chamber musician but as well as an orchestral player in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, USA and Japan…
As a soloist, Valerie has received favorable reviews as by the music critics of the Eastern Herald (South-Africa) as a “...brilliant player with an refined tone, a versatile range of colors and an impressive virtuosity...”

From 2010-2013 she worked as a guest lecturer at the Conservatories of Brussels and Liège. She currently teaches piccolo at the “Conservatory of Music ” in Maastricht (The Netherlands) and in 2014 she became Professor in flute performance at the “Academy of Music and performing Arts” in Tilburg (The Netherlands). Her class is for talented flutists that want to profile them not only as great teachers but also as excellent flute players in youth-and professional orchestras.
